Do you want your fairy wings on?
I hold them in my hands, and
my daughter
spreads her arms out wide—
Yes. Yes. Yes.
It makes me think how the Lord
asked me
in my deep suffering
Do you want life? The life
I hold for you?
Yes. Yes. Yes?
So, I get buried first,
in corners and in flower pots
then I sit up from the grave,
shake the seeds from my hands
and it was small at first,
then it was asters, zinnias, cosmos,
and bouquets with forget-me-nots,
four babies growing in nine years
of mircales, I’ve been flying
for awhile.
But in my waiting and in
my wanting and in my arms
spread wide,
it was life
in the ground, life
in my bones, life
in my hands, life
in my heart, life
in my eyes, my
soul, life, life,
life.
I’ve got wings on too, wings
like an eagle, wings
renewed, wings
and faith-heartedness, fly, fly
fly.
Spread those arms wide, daughter
of mine, see, see
see!
God’s got me and you.
So, she runs off smiling,
and I go on running, go on
soaring
into the life
I received when I spread
my arms out wide
to the Lord, God’s face
shining, shining
shining
down
on me.
