Of Prayer & Cosmos – a poem on trusting God when you don’t know how

Our baby was sick
and I was too,
the test said new life in October
and I shuddered with fear
near every day for their lives
how could I trust the Lord?

So, I prayed, prayed, prayed
my anguish
in plain words
and the only balm for my soul
was to be in the Presence of God
though I knew not how
to trust Him at all.

And now it’s October
and my toddler is healing,
the baby within skips and kicks
and there’s cosmos I never thought
would be blooming, like weeds
they grew for ages,
and I gave up all hope
for them.

Still I sat in the garden,
let weeds stay in the garden, until
one morning I lifted the blinds
to cosmos
soft, pink, and more
coming,
nothing like weeds at all.

I think to myself in their glorious
blooming—
I never regret sitting in the
Presence of God, do I?
though I know not always
how to trust Him!
