Here at Green Fables there is a particular flower which can bloom through the wintertime. Last year was my first experience with this bloom and I even gifted one of the small yellow flowers to a dear friend on her birthday! She is a lover of spring and summer so getting such a bright flower on a winter birthday was just right.

The yellow flower so in bloom during winter prompted this poem in my newest poetry book, Swan Song of a Scarecrow.
January is an expression of peace and triumph in the Christian life. It portrays the wholeness we experience…life untouchable but bruised by weather…and the juxtaposition of waiting and not having to wait at all. Life with Christ!!
JANUARY
How to explain it–earthside but heavenward.
Biting cold, endless rain but a season for flowers anyway. Life untouchable but bruised by weather. A bursting brightness in the dark of day. A bolstering joy by the roots of Hope. Made well and whole, in part. A garden waiting but not the daisy.
Full bloom in bitter January.” -S.V.F.
Swan Song of a Scarecrow is filled with poetry woven in honesty and hope. It’s the PERFECT companion to the winter season. Find it here.
Tomorrow I’ll be back with a new poem about motherhood inspired by my little boy. Blueberries, blue sky, and the sun all make an appearance.
See you then!
