Earlier this month I turned 30. It was such a beautiful day filled with normal and special moments! My one plan to celebrate this milestone birthday was to put 30 actual candles on my cake. Getting all those birthday candles out and counted made me laugh aloud for the joy of it.🎂 I thank God for 30 and will always look back on this birthday fondly.

Getting older is a wonderful lot in life. So here’s a poem for you whenever it is you find yourself having another birthday this year. 🙂
when I was sixteen at a family gathering,
I’ll never forget what he said,
“you think we have it all together? nah,
we’re just like you.
it’s our first time, you know,
figuring it all out too.”
he was probably in his
forties then, or somewhere
thereabouts
but it doesn’t really matter,
does it?
because he was right
and it changed my mind
and I love getting older
knowing
I’m never set
to arrive, realizing
that deer-in-the-headlights
feeling
guarantees there is no
age or decade
that manages a firm grip on us.
sure it’s not the fountain of youth
spun
in those wistful legends
but it is a fountain of youth,
of sorts,
the one we all get stuck with.
and it sure is fun when you come
upon it,
laughing with all those
birthday candles
too many
to light, too long to wait,
scooping
wax out of your cake.
I love that he was right.
