On a warm and cloudy summer morning I walked into the garden to find a fairy family had moved into the flower bed. Quite a history they must have, but I’m thrilled they ended up in our neck of the woods, or more accurately our garden in the northern California foothills.

As you see here the young boy was so happy to explore he paid no mind that he lost his tiny brown shoe in the process! I still haven’t found it yet. Oh, well. Who needs shoes?! Certainly not him! Especially when swinging and swimming in The Flower Sea.

As the saying goes, “boys will be boys,” and, of course, in this day and age you can’t really say that without some sort of pushback but when I saw this little boy hanging from his house so daringly, so freely, so of his own accord, that’s all I could think!

What’s better than napping in a cozy fairy house? Why napping in the leaf of a hollyhock! Doesn’t it make you wonder how it would feel to snuggle up in a fuzzy hollyhock leaf?

I think some of the best rebellion to be had in such a dark world is to pursue beauty and to enjoy what is beautiful. A fairy family moving into the summer garden is just the kind of delightful thing we need in the news.
A rebellion of sorts.

Also a walk in the Snapdragon Woods while picking a giant mum certainly helps to quell the noise and remind one to enjoy the daily blessings afoot. Isn’t her hat just marvelous? And those golden braids!

So, as you can see, Garden of Green Fables happily has new tenants. As the season turns to autumn and autumn to Christmas fervor, I’ll be sure to catch a glimpse here and there of their festivities and share the photos with you. I’m supposing their will be a glorious September showing of their beautiful rebellion as well.
The party has just begun!
If you’re on the lookout for fairies moving into your space, an Amazon cardboard box will do just fine as a cozy dwelling space. Add all the special touches with scrap paper, vinyl stickers, seed packets ribbon, magazine clippings, and hearty artificial flowers.

As for the fairy family? Well, this particular one showed up in the mail. Made and sent by my Mom and sister. These fairies used to be desert dwellers and now they are basking in the delight of the northern California foothills! Mere weeks after the fairy house was built, the fairies found their way home and moved right into the summer garden.
Sharing their story is my own bit of rebellion against the chaos and darkness of the world. Welcome, welcome to these small and joyous festivities! More beauty to come.
